Machida/Bader also in the UFC Title Mix

“When the fans speak, we listen. Whoever scores the best win, whoever gets the fans excited... will get the winner of Jones-Henderson, it is down to what these four guys do Saturday night in the Octagon. Winning isn’t enough; they’ve got to win impressively. Any one of these four fighters can take things into their own hands and make a title shot happen.” - Dana White

Looks like the fan reaction to Dana White's statement that the winner of Shogun/Vera would be getting the next title shifted the plans of the UFC. Now whoever not only wins, but wins the most impressively gets the next shot.

In my opinion they should have this just be a 4 man mini tournament for the next title shot. Jon Jones has already beat and finished all four fighters who have a chance for the next shot and none of them have great records in their last few fights. Of course if Jones loses to Henderson that changes things a lot and opens up all kinds of possibilities.

‘The Hobbit’ is Now a Trilogy

Though it was originally planned as only two films, Peter Jackson felt three movies were needed to tell the entire story of ‘The Hobbit’ and apparently the various rights holders agreed. The ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy released one film each year and it appears that ‘The Hobbit’ will as well, with the first movie coming out this summer and the last film arriving in 2014.

Peter Jackson’s quote from a Facebook page:

“We know how much of the story of Bilbo Baggins, the Wizard Gandalf, the Dwarves of Erebor, the rise of the Necromancer, and the Battle of Dol Guldur will remain untold if we do not take this chance,” “The richness of the story of ‘The Hobbit,’ as well as some of the related material in the appendices of ‘The Lord of the Rings,’ allows us to tell the full story of the adventures of Bilbo Baggins and the part he played in the sometimes dangerous, but at all times exciting, history of Middle-earth.”

The Trailer to ‘The hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ can be seen here:

Nick Diaz ‘Ready To Get Back In The Cage’ Wants Anderson Silva

Anderson Silva wanted a superfight, sounds like he just got one (if everyone agrees to it anyway).  According to Cesar Gracie:

“He will respectfully ask for a fight with Anderson Silva, a fighter he respects and would like to challenge.
Silva’s camp has been speaking of a fight with GSP, possibly even at a catch weight. Nick will take that fight in a minute but has told me that should Silva decide not to drop at all, he will move up to 185lbs to face the Champ.”

Sounds good to me, it would be a stand up battle and Diaz is a guy who would come after Anderson and wouldn’t be afraid.  Diaz has also fought catch weight bouts against middleweight fighters before (179-180lbs).  I like a fighter who is willing to challenge himself.

Frank Mir vs Daniel Cormier in Strikeforce Sept 29

 VS

The UFC is temporarily sending former UFC Champ Frank Mir over to Strikeforce to fight Strikeforce GP winner Daniel Cormier in Cormier's last Strikeforce fight.  After this fight Zuffa (who owns both the UFC and Strikeforce) is combining the Heavyweight divisions in the UFC.  Several Strikeforce heavyweights have already made the move, including Champ Alistair Overeem, Werdum and Bigfoot Silva.  The only question mark left now is who will Josh Barnett fight in his last Strikeforce fight?

I have to say, I didn't see this one coming but it's a good fight.  Both are top 10 but I fully expect Cormier to end Mir's night in the first round.  The only way he can lose this is to just into Mir's guard but I think he is smart enough to keep this on the feet.

Lyoto Machida's Signature Moves

Pretty cool video.  Machida is one of my favorite fighters.  I'm going to be doing a breakdown between Machida and Bader before their fight.

The Wolverine Starts Filming in a Week

Anyone who is a Wolverine fan should be happy to know 'The Wolverine' starts filming next week.  Based on the 1982 Wolverine series which takes place in Japan.  'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' was a bit of a letdown, it will be interesting to see if this is a stand alone story or if it will be connected to the other movies.

It looks like High Jackman is still excited about the character saying:

"I have been working for 12 years on the Wolverine character and while the franchise will go well beyond me, it really has been the backbone of my career.” Adding that he will call it quits “when I stop loving it."

More Marvel Movie Logos Released

Ant-Man is the only new character out of these three films.  In the comics he is one of the founding members of the Avengers.  He can change his size, but even if he shrinks down to the size of an ant he still maintains the same strength he had as a full sized human.

I would have liked to see a Hulk 2 announced, especially after how popular he was in the Avengers.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Logo Released

Marvel has release the logo for the Guardians of the Galaxy film, coming in 2014.  What do you think about this choice for one of their new properties?  I don't think most average people know much about this comic as compared to many others like The Hulk, Avengers, Iron Man, etc.

There have been a couple of different versions of this team so I do not know exactly what the movie will be about but the original Guardians of the Galaxy was about a team of superheros from the 31th century in an alternate time line in the Marvel Universe.  It will be interesting to see how they tie into the Avengers and the other Marvel heroes in the already established movies.

Christian Bale visits Colorado shooting victims

"Words cannot express the horror that I feel. I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them."  These were the words spoken by actor Christian Bale who portrays Batman in the new film, The Dark Knight Rises.

It was very nice of Christian Bale to visit the victims of the Colorado shootings.  You have to give the man props for that kind gesture.

Sherman Hemsley (February 1, 1938 – July 24, 2012)

In some sad news, George Jefferson himself, Sherman Hemsley, has passed away at the age of 74.  I used to love watching the Jeffersons when I was a kid (though looking back at it now I didn't understand a lot of the context).  Only years later would I find out that the Jeffersons was actually a spin off of All in the Family (a show I had never seen until a few years ago).

The Jeffersons was a show about a poor family who strikes it rich through George's dry cleaning company (this is what happened to transition between All in the Family and the Jeffersons).  It was a comedy but often dealt with racism and other social issues.  Like All in the Family's Archie Bunker, George Jefferson was very opinionated and racist, which lead to clashes between the characters when they were both on the same show.

Unfortunately it seems like many of the tv greats from the past are gone now, with Andy Griffith passing away recently and now Sherman Hemsley.  At least they will all live on in reruns from their classic shows.

Dragon Ball Z Ep 7: Day 1

Here we are, Day 1 of Gohan's crash course in Martial Arts training!  If our heroes are going to have a chance against the mighty Saiyans, it begins here.  It begins with, oddly enough, no Martial Arts training.  Piccolo informs Gohan that he is going to abandon him in the woods for the next six months and if he can survive, he will train him.

Elsewhere, Kami informs Mr. Popo that Piccolo seems to be changing.  That he might be developing some good in him judging by his actions.  He also says that he knows he will die in a year (if Kami or Piccolo dies, the other dies as well since they are actually 1 person split into 2-that also means the Dragon Balls will disappear).  We also see Goku leave snake way to find out that black shadowy hands come up through the clouds to try to pull him into a vortex of some kind.  Yeah, leaving snake way is not a good idea (even if it was an accident)!

Back in the middle of no where, Gohan gets chased by a T-Rex, only to have his true power manifest again.  This time not in an attack, but in speed.  Without even knowing how he did it he manages to end up on top of a high cliff, out of danger from the T-Rex.  In another example of Piccolo's heart softening, he (secretly) leaves Gohan a couple of apples to eat when he is hungry.

This episode didn't have a lot of action in it but it did reveal a few plot points.  I give this episode 2.5 out of 4 stars.

Sergei Kharitonov Turns Down the UFC

Former Pride and Strikeforce fighter Sergei Kharitonov has turned down the UFC's offer, saying he receives offers 3 times higher than what the UFC offered him.  I'm glad he is looking out for himself and making as much money as he can in other organizations if the UFC isn't going to pay him what he is worth.  Plus, with the way he is currently doing things, he gets to take fights in MMA, Boxing and Kickboxing.  Kharitonov is a fighter who likes to stay busy, in the UFC he would be lucky to fight 2 times a year.  With ONE FC, Bellator and other MMA promotions building steam, there is no shortage of places for him to sign.

Matt Hume named Vice President of One FC

Greats news for fans of Japanese MMA.  Matt Hume (older MMA fans should know who this is) has accepted the position of Vice President of ONE Fighting Championships.  With ONE FC's rule set and having Hume help lead the show, plus signing a ton of name fighters recently, ONE FC is making big progress very quickly.  It will be interesting to see where they go from here.

Bruce Wayne's End (Contains Dark Knight Rises spoilers)

Bruce Wayne is an interesting character.  Bruce was born into one of the richest families in the world, with everything at his finger tips.  It looked like the world was his.  As fate would have it, his life took a turn for the worst very early when his parents were murdered right in front of him.  The pain of loss and a sense of justice (or revenge) lead him to spend his early adult life traveling the world gaining various skills he could use to fight crime...to prevent his tragedy from happening to others.

As everyone knows, he eventually becomes Batman, one of the most legendary superheroes of all time.  He possesses no powers, only a strong mind and body.  Armed with martial arts, detective skills, and the best technology can offer he patrols the rooftops of Gotham city looking for thugs to pound into the ground.

The interesting question is, what is the fate of a man like this?  Defined by tragedy, is he doomed to be killed by one of the villains in Batman's massive rouges gallery?  Killed by a random thug on the street who got lucky?  Grow old by himself, alone in his mansion?  Several stories ranging from the comic books, to cartoons to the movies have created a fate for him, it's almost always just as tragic as his life.

Though it's not a good movie (it's mostly just Tim Burton running wild), Batman Returns shows a Bruce Wayne who is very different from the one in the first Burton film.  In the first movie he still got out into the world some.  He had parties and pretended to be a socialite, even if that wasn't his desire.  By Batman Returns he has become isolated.  He simply sits around his mansion waiting for the Bat signal.  He lives to be Batman.

Similarly, this is how we find Bruce Wayne in the new The Dark Knight Rises film.  He has been out of the game for 8 years but secretly longs for things to go wrong so he can become Batman again.  In both movies we see that Bruce Wayne actually died with his parents and Batman is who he truly is.  Unlike other superheroes, Batman's mask is his true face, not the mask he puts on every night.

It seems Bruce's story has to end in tragedy (and does in virtually all forms of media).  I was happy to see that in The Dark Knight Rises he actually has a happy ending (though some feel that is open to interpretation), finally taking Alfred's advice.  Moving on with his life and past the death of Rachel.  It's always nice to see a characters redemption.

In other incarnations it didn't end so well.  In the classic 90s cartoon we find out he ends up old and alone (Batman Beyond) until he finds someone to pass the torch of Batman to.

In the original Batman movies we find out he gets nipples on his costume and Gotham has become overrun with neon gangs.  Perhaps that is the most tragic ending of all.  On second thought, let's pretend like those last 2 movies from Joel Schumacher didn't happen and Bruce ended up isolated and alone like in Batman Returns.

In all seriousness, Bruce Wayne is a great character.  It's nice to see different endings written for him, though all and all it's probably better to just let him go on being Batman and never define his ending.  I always feel that leaving things like that up to the imagination is better than whatever someone can come up with.  Your mind can fill in the gaps the better than any writer.

Moment Of Silence

In something I did not expect to see, every movie studio is withholding their Box Office returns out of respect for those who died during the Colorado screening of The Dark Knight Rises.  It was a terrible tragedy and I am glad to see this kind of respect given to the families who lost loved one.

Movies are a chance to escape reality and for a few short hours live in a fantasy world where anything is possible.  When something like this shooting happens, which makes people have to worry about being shot, it kills the magic of the cinema.

UFC 149: Epic Fail

I canceled my breakdown of this card last week because frankly, it looked horrible on paper.  There wasn't even 1 fight on the card I cared about seeing and it looks like that was a good choice since everyone online is saying it was one of the most boring cards of all time.

I said it when I canceled my breakdown of this card and I will say it again; if the UFC wants to be considered "big leagues" like they are always saying about themselves, they need to actually prove it by putting on good cards.  They are running so many shows now that 90% of the cards are complete garbage with no names on it.  No one wants to watch a few bums fight each other just because the name "UFC" is attached to it.  In all honesty, this is the worst era of MMA since the mid to late 90s and I think PPV numbers are going to continue to be terrible unless they really do something soon.

I really hope everyone was smart enough to save their hard earned money and not pay Zuffa (UFC owners) for this lame card.  If people stop buying these they will be forced to actually up their game and put on worthwhile fights.  This card was so bad, I wouldn't even watch it if Dana White hand delivered it to me on DVD and even put it in my DVD player for me while serving me a pizza.

Back to the Future

I just watched this movie again last week, and it's still fantastic.  I'm sure I have see it about 100 times in my life.  The above picture is from last year so they only have 3 years now!

It is kind of funny how in some respects we have been dead on when it comes to technology in movies and in others we are way off.  Take Star Trek for instance.  Their communicators look just like cell phones and even flip open but at the same time, the voice of the computer sounds like an old 1950s robot.  It's just funny they got the design and function of a cell phone down but didn't think we could get an actual human sounding voice down.

Of course in the case of Back to the Future (1985) where they showed 2015 technology being flying cars and Mr. Fusions, they were just way off.  If you are going to make a movie about the future just make it hundreds of years in the future so you won't live to be wrong lol.

Dark Knight Rises Ending (Major Spoilers)

If you haven't seen the movie you should stop reading here, unless you just don't care about the movie being spoiled for you.  If you have seen the movie, continue reading below.

Okay, if you are still here I am going to assume you have already seen the movie.  I saw online that there is a small conspiracy theory out there who think Bruce Wayne actually died at the end of the film because when he was talking to Alfred earlier Alfred said something like "I always imagined you at that diner being happy every time I went there".  This whole theory is based on that single line but I don't think it holds up for multiple reasons:

1.  It shows Alfred thinking about Bruce being at the restaurant in a flash back to when he actually did it once.  He sees someone he thinks is Bruce and he turns around and it isn't him.  It was more just wishful thinking that he would see him there then literally picturing him being there.  Plus if Alfred thought Bruce was dead there wouldn't be much of a reason to picture him being there happy when he knows 100% that he died.  He only pictured him being there when he was missing during his 20s because he didn't know what happened to him.  Also at the end of the movie Bruce acknowledges seeing Alfred.

2.  Alfred saw him there with Selina Kyle.  There is no reason for him to picture Bruce with Selina Kyle since he didn't know they had developed any kind of romantic attachment at all.  He didn't know anything about her except that she is a thief who robbed them.  In the past when Alfred imagined Bruce with someone there it was just a random woman.  Bruce just took Alfred's advice and moved on (which he was able to do because Alfred told him the truth about burning Rachel's letter).

3.  James Gordon finds a new Bat signal on top of the roof.  He seems surprised to see it there.  Who else would have put a new Bat signal on the rood other then Bruce Wayne?  He was letting Gordon know he lived, just as he did with everyone at his funeral.

4.   Lucius Fox, who had the wreckage from the Bat, was told that the auto pilot had been repaired 6 months ago.  He gives a little smile acknowledging he knew Bruce was alive.  During the scene where Batman is in the Bat flying the bomb away, it shows him still inside, then cuts to far away and shows it fly for a while before it blows up.  Bruce had plenty of time to escape and fly away with his glider cape.  He survived the same way everyone else in Gotham did, by not being in the blast.  I think he actually left right before the Bat started going over the water.

5.  John Blake is left directions to the Batcave, obviously left to him by Bruce Wayne.  Not to mention Bruce's will which left everything to various people and his Mom's pearls were missing (because Bruce gave them to Selina).

6.  They had the wreckage from the Bat.  There was no body (remains of a body) or batsuit in there.  It was completely empty because he escaped.

7.   Alfred tells Bruce the truth about Rachel so that he can move on. Bruce dying for no reason when he could have simply ejected himself doesn't make sense.  The whole point of Alfred's sacrifice is that he knows it will give Bruce a chance at moving on from his past.  Plus Bruce isn't a moron, why would he sit there and die when he had repaired the autopilot.

If Bruce Wayne had actually of died there would have been no reason to show everyone who had been at his funeral receiving a sign that he was still alive.  And again, it's based on one line from Alfred earlier in the movie that was literally shown in flash back.  He would just see people who reminded him of Bruce, not literally picture him being there with some person who is a criminal as far as he knows.

Man of Steel Hans Zimmer Score from Comic-con Footage

Here is Journey to the Line by Hans Zimmer, used during the footage for the Superman: Man of Steel footage at Comic-con.  Zack Snyder has already said they will not be using any of the music from the previous Superman movies, including the classic theme.  This movie is being made like there has never been a Superman movie before.

Man of Steel teaser trailer review

I just got back from seeing the Dark Knight Rises and before it began, there was a teaser trailer for Man of Steel, the new Superman movie.  This is not the same footage that was shown at Comic-con and it's not a very long trailer.  There actually isn't much of Superman in it at all.  It's mostly about Clark Kent looking rough, like he is traveling the world doing odd jobs, trying to find his mission in life.

Over top of the footage is his Kryptonian father Jor-El speaking; talking about leading mankind, setting an example for them to follow.  The very end of the trailer shows Superman flying straight up from a distance.  That's really about all there was.  It does sort of remind me of Batman Begins, where it's mostly about our hero (out of costume) finding his way in the world and discovering what his mission truly is.  I expect the movie to be something similar to that, just with Superman instead of Batman.

I am excited to see this film.  With Christopher Nolan producing, his writing team doing the script, and Zack Snyder directing, I don't really see how this movie could go wrong.  I will be looking forward to when a full trailer comes out, which could be some time since the movie doesn't open for almost another year.

The Dark Knight Rises Review (no major spoilers)

Well, I just got back from The Dark Knight Rises and this was a huge movie.  It's long, nearly 3 hours long, but it didn't feel like it.  This is definately a movie I will have to watch multiple times because there is so much going on I am not even sure I can recall it all right now.

It's a little hard to review this film without spoilers so I'll just hit what I liked and didn't like, without mentioning any particular scenes.  I like that the film focused on Bruce Wayne a lot, in a way similar to how Batman Begins did.  The Joker stole the show in The Dark Knight Rises but in this film it's much more balanced between Bruce Wayne and the bad guys.

All of Bruce's friends are around like Alfred and Fox, both played to perfection for the time they are given.  A new character named John Blake is given a lot of screen time.  I almost felt like he was in it as much as Bruce Wayne (and much more than Batman who really wasn't in the movie much at all).  Commissioner Gordon was back as the closest thing Batman has to a sidekick in these movies.

The villains are interesting as well, especially Bane.  This is a big, strong, scary dude.  He talks a bit like Sean Connery oddly enough, not necessarily what you would expect from a hulking brute like Bane.  But that just shows you both sides of Bane.  He isn't just a hulking brute, he is also very intelligent, in an evil Joker-like kind of way.

This brings me to the other villain, Catwoman (who is never actually called that in the film but it's hinted at).  Selina Kyle (Catwoman's real name), played by Anne Hathaway, is the only character that really bothered me in the film.  She is always easily beating men, lots of them at a time.  I mean I don't know if even Batman does that well without getting hit.  It just seemed a but unrealistic that Anne Hathaway, who is probably 120lbs tops, is beating the crap out of all of these brutes.  I think they should have toned that down a bit.  I'm also not sure Anne Hathaway as the right choice for the part, but by the end I didn't mind her so much.

Overall, this is a huge movie, with a lot going on.  Tons of characters, plots, twists and turns.  It is a fitting ending to this film series and the whole end sequence is amazing.  I'd give this movie 3.5 out of 4 stars

Iron Man 3 Armor Revealed

Well, there it is.  The new Armor from Iron Man 3.  What do you guys think?  To be honest, I'm not feeling it much.  It's not horrible and it could look better in the film, but I like his classic red and gold look better.  Perhaps the new color is for a particular reason in the film.  Guess we will have to wait and find out.  The Armor for one of the villains (Iron Patriot) in the film has also been released.  Not a big fan of this one either really:

The Dark Knight Rises Death Threats

In some rather odd news, Rottentomatoes.com has had to shut down the comment section for The Dark Knight Rises because people are sending death threats to reviewers who gave the movie a bad score.  How crazy is this?!

Okay, I love Batman movies just as much as anyone, but threatening to kill people because they gave the movie a bad rating is insane.  For starters, these fans haven't even seen the movie so they have no idea if it is good or not.  Second, different people like different things.  Not everyone is going to like the same exact movies, get over it.  Third, this unfortunately shows one of the negatives about the internet.  People feel anonymous online and say things to others they would never have to courage to say in person.  Everyone knows if they said the things they say online to someone in real life, they are going to be eating a punch.

A good general principle is, if you wouldn't say something to someone in person, don't pretend like you are a tough guy online.  Just keep it to yourself before you end up in prison for making death threats.

Dragon Ball Z Ep 6: No Time Like the Present

This episode begins with Piccolo telling the others that Goku disappeared at death because Kami, the guardian of Earth, took him for some unknown purpose.  Bulma, being curious as to how Raditz was able to find Goku so easily, is told by Piccolo that the device on Raditz' face is some sort of scanner that detects people.  This information isn't the only thing revealed to our heroes.  Piccolo also regrows his arm that was lost in the Raditz fight and tells everyone that he is taking Gohan to train him because he just might be the most powerful person on earth.

Meanwhile, in the afterlife we meet Goku again.  He has earned a chance to travel a path to King Kai on a trail called Snake Way.  All we know about it is that it is dangerous and Goku is told that if he falls of of it there is no coming back.  When he arrives at the entrance we find out Snake Way is 10,000 miles long and only one person has ever made it!  Before starting his journey he sends a message back to his friends not to wish him back for 1 year (that is how long he will train with King Kai).

Back on Earth Piccolo explains to Gohan what is happening and begins his training.  Very quickly Gohan's true power is revealed and Piccolo tells him he will help him learn to harness it.  Piccolo will have no mercy on Gohan, which is something new for the pampered child.

I give this episode 4 out of 4 stars

Anderson Silva vs Luke Rockhold

According to UFC Tonight, Anderson Silva wants a champion vs champion match against Luke Rockhold.  UFC MW Champ against Strikeforce MW Champ.  They really need to start cross promoting and making some interesting fights if they want to keep people interesting in the middleweight division.  Reports are that Silva vs Sonnen II did well, but that was 99% based on Sonnen talking a lot of smack and hyping the fight up for 2 years.

I don't think Silva vs anyone else at 185lbs in the UFC would really pull very big numbers (besides maybe Cung Le or Wanderlei but neither one deserve a title shot right now).  The only other big money fights for Anderson Silva are super fights with GSP (who has been out for well over a year) or Jones, but the UFC seems content not giving the fans what they want.  Silva moving to 205lbs would also create several interesting match ups.  Silva is just as big as most UFC LHWs so it shouldn't be a problem for him to move up if he wants to challenge himself.

Luke Rockhold holds notable victories over Ronaldo Souza, Keith Jardine and Tim Kennedy.

Villain Profile: Arthur Petrelli

Arthur Petrelli is the father of Peter and Nathan Petrelli.  Through the first couple of season we were told multiple stories of how he died, but the truth ends up being that his wife poisoned him because he was planning on killing Nathan for standing against his illegal activities.  She thought he died but he didn't; instead he spent a year being paralyzed.  Due to his ability to absorb other powers, he eventually recovers and even steals Peter's abilities, making him virtually unstoppable.

Arthur is the main Villain in the first half of season 3, the worst season of heroes.  Arthur is a villain who could have been pretty cool, but instead of focusing on some grand scheme of his, it's mostly about him simply having a lot of powers.  If we hadn't already seen this from Sylar it might have been alright but at this point he feel kind of like a recycled character.  His whole story line feels like a soap opera anyway.  They thought he was dead but he isn't, he tells Sylar he is really his father, but he isn't, etc.

Another problem is his plan doesn't really make any sense.  I have no idea why he is trying to give everyone superpowers because he is constantly paranoid about anyone with powers who could be a threat to him.  Unless his goal was to give everyone powers so he could steal them all, I really don't know what his motivation was.  Like all of season 3, there was some really good stuff and some really bad stuff...Arthur is just a product of that.

It's unfortunate his story wasn't all of season 3 so he could be devolved more.  Perhaps given some grand reason why he wanted to do what he wanted to do.  The second half of season 3 is the worst overall story from heroes so it would have been nice to see this one fleshed out and made sense of.  Arthur is even warned that the world will be destroyed because of his plan (by someone who can see the future) but he still doesn't listen.  Whatever his motivation was, apparently it was a strong one.  Sadly, we will never know since he died in the middle of the season.

On a side note, I am not sure why he didn't heal from his gun shot would after the Haitian was gone.  They had already established multiple times (Claire, Sylar) that if someone with a healing factor dies because their powers are blocked in some way, they will heal and come back as soon as their powers return.  Both Arthur and Future Peter Petrelli died from being shot because the Haitian was around and never came back (as far as we know).

Cung Le on Steven Seagal

Cung Le doesn't believe Steven Seagal has done anything for MMA.  Do you think he is right?  Cung Le vs Steven Seagal, lets do it!

Gegard Mousasi talks about next fight

Gegard Mousasi talks about his next fight in Strikeforce, where he has been and if he is going to the UFC.  It stinks that Feijão is out for the next year, that is a fight I have wanted to see for a long time.  Maybe Mike Kyle will be available.  Regardless of who it is, I just want to see him active again.

Great song used really well in The Amazing Spider-man.

Dragon Ball Z Ep 5: Gohan's Rage

We open on Gohan's true power being shown.  Somehow his power level is so high he manages to hurt Raditz with a headbutt to the chest.  Considering this child doesn't even train and he managed to do something Goku and Piccolo combined couldn't is pretty interesting and sets up the mystery of how Gohan is so strong.

While Raditz is distracted by his desire to kill Gohan, Goku grabs him from behind in a full nelson.  Now Piccolo has the time to charge up his attack, and he knows it will land because Raditz can't move.  The only problem with this plan is that Goku will be killed by the attack as well.  Goku being the hero he is sacrifices his life so that this villain can be defeated.

Piccolo taunts Raditz before he dies by telling him it's no big deal for Goku, as his friends will wish him back using the Dragon Balls.  Unfortunately for Piccolo and the Earth, Raditz isn't the only one who hears this information.  Before Raditz dies he tells our heroes that there are other Saiyans listening in, who are even more powerful than he is, and they are on their way now that they know about the Dragon Balls.  We also see the mysterious Saiyans talking with each other, already deciding they want to wish for eternal life so that they can become something called a Super Saiyan.

This whole introduction is an important one, as it sets the course for this show. It opens our Dragon Ball universe up for endless possibilities now that we know there are other aliens out there who are very strong.  It also shows the writers are not afraid to kill off main characters even early in the series (even if they can be brought back).  Who would have guessed when DBZ started that Goku would be dead within 5 episodes?  We know at this point that anything is game in this series.

Alistair Overeem Wants December Title Fight

Alistair Overeem, who was the first victim of the random drug testing policy that was put into place by the Nevada athletic commission, says he plans to fight on the UFC's December card for the title against Junior Dos Santos.  He said he knows he will not be promoted for the card until he is licensed so he hopes to get his license early.

It will be interesting to see if things work out the way he plans or not.  The problem I see is that even if he gets his license and the title shot in December, he will have been off for a whole year.  Since he already failed a random drug test and has set out so long he should have to fight someone else (Velasquez or Werdum) before getting the title shot.  At the same time, JDS doesn't really have anyone to fight right now that he hasn't already beat before.  I guess we will see what happens come December.

Pride FC: Fedor vs Cro Cop

With the current state of MMA being in the gutter it really makes me miss the old days when Pride was King.  Videos like the following are just one of a billion reasons why the Pride era is the greatest era of MMA we have ever seen.  In Pride we didn't get crappy rock music talking about being the ultimate warrior, we received classical music, epic promotional videos and real background on fighters.  It was an amazing time in MMA and if you missed out on that I am sorry, I don't think we will ever see anything like it again.

Tito Ortiz on TRT

Tito is angry about all the TRT use in MMA, and frankly, so am I.  There have always been guys who are willing to cheat in order to gain an advantage over their opponents, but now it's legal.  The average healthy male has a ratio of 1:1, with TRT they are saying it's legal (depending on the state) to have a ratio of 6:1 or 4:1.  To allow someone who makes a living fighting, to take a substance that gives them 4 - 6 times the normal amount of testosterone is crazy.  People are saying now that Dan Henderson is better than he has ever been, he is also now on TRT.  Dan used to weigh in at about 195lbs when he fought at LHW, now he is over 205lbs and has to cut.  He also looks more solid now than he did when he was 30.

Frank Mir, Forrest Griffin, Chael Sonnen, etc are also on TRT.  Most of these guys are already in great shape and buff, do they really look like guys who have low testosterone?  I mean give me a break.  Just that fact that MMA is so blatantly corrupt now really turns me off of it.  It's no longer about being the best fighter you can be, wanting to challenge yourself, it's about who can do the most drugs and cut the most weight to gain an advantage over their opponents.  The Martial Arts in MMA is dead.

Superman vs Goku

I have decided to start a "VS" series where I will match up certain comic book or anime characters and say who I think would win and why.  I figured why not start with the big dogs?  Superman vs Goku.  This battle is interesting because it really depends on when and where it takes place.  Let me explain.

Superman:  Superman is extremely powerful, everyone knows this.  The thing is, if he isn't on Earth (or by a yellow sun) his powers start to decrease until he eventually becomes an ordinary man.  He also tends to have trouble against other beings even close to his level because he spends so much time trying to tone himself down and not hurt anyone.  Because of this he also doesn't have that great of fighting ability and generally just stands there and lets people hit him.  Now of course all of this depends on what version of Superman we are talking about but I am going with what most people know of him from the moves and comic book.  He has shown the ability to fight though, like against Doomsday or Darkseid.  When he is pushed he seems to focus better and use his powers at a higher level.

Goku:  Goku's power level changes a lot over time.  He is constantly training and eventually learns how to take new forms, like Super Saiyan level 1, 2, 3 and 4.  The Goku from the first Episode of DBZ wouldn't last 1 second against the Goku from the last episode.  Because of this constant improvement from Goku it really just depends on what time period you are talking about with him.

In a head to head match up, Superman beats Goku if it's early on.  If the fight takes place after Goku reaches Super Saiyan things start to change.  If it takes place past SS1 Goku wins for sure.  Goku is the superior fighter and later on has enough power to destroy an entire planet, even Superman can't take that kind of power.  If this fight takes place anywhere but on Earth Goku also wins as Superman will be depowered until he becomes a regular man, whereas Goku's powers function the same anywhere.  I suppose you could call this one a draw since either one of them could win, again, depending on when and where it takes place.

These two characters are both big dogs and they both represent how their countries tend to do characters.  Superman was given his powers by birthright (and circumstances beyond his control like being sent to Earth).  He never really develops his powers much beyond what he had when he first discovered them.  Goku on the other hand worked really hard for most of his progress.  He is constantly training, fighting tougher villains, finding new training methods, etc to get stronger.  He was also born with certain abilities beyond ordinary men but nothing like Superman.  One power that Goku was born with that would help him against anyone is that he constantly improves every time he fights someone.  So if he fights someone who is close to the same power level as himself and loses, he will "evolve" to become stronger after he heals, meaning he should win the rematch (Doomsday has a similar ability).

If anyone has any other match ups they would like covered let me know!

Villain Profile: Doyle

Eric Doyle is a villain who first showed up during Heroes season 3.  He has the ability to control people like puppets.

Though not a main bad guy like Sylar or Sullivan, Doyle shows up multiple times over the last two seasons of the show.  I like that he has a creative power that isn't seen in to many other places, it's not your typical flying or super strength.  Doyle is one of the bad guys who escapes from level 5 in season 3.  He is an interesting character, actually one of my favorite bad guys on the show.

He has a thing for Claire's mom (biological mother) Meredith and is pretty vicious the first time he is encountered by Claire and both her bio mom and adoptive mom.  He takes control of all three of them and makes them play Russian roulette.  I don't even know what his end game was here.  He comes across as kind of a rapist/creepy type but then seems delighted when he thought of Meredith dying (even though he seems to be infatuated by her).  That whole situation just makes him that much more demented, that even if he has a crush on someone he still enjoys seeing them suffer.

Unfortunately for Doyle he runs across Sylar multiple times (sometimes off screen) and battles it out.  He always loses in the end but does better in their last confrontation.  Doyle attempts to reform during the course of the show, or at least claims he will reform, but then in the same episode gives Claire a smirk like he was just saying that to get help when he needed it.  In the end he ends up at the Sullivan Brothers carnival working as a puppeteer.

While at the carnival we see that he has somewhat reformed but everyone at the carnival seems willing to kill if they feel it's needed.  He is also very protective of Samuel Sullivan, even attacking Claire who had previous helped him.  This guy is actually one of the more powerful specials out there and could take on just about anyone short of Sylar and a few others.  Against regular humans he has been shown to be able to control at least three people at once and I do not know what his limit actually is.

Many other characters in the show had their powers advance over the show and it would be interesting to see if Doyle's powers ever increase in some interesting way as well.  The last we see of him is when he is tied up by Sylar, after that his whereabouts are unknown.  I do like that Doyle made several appearances but wasn't overused.  He has interesting powers and is just the right amount of unstable.

Dragon Ball Z Ep 4: Piccolo's Plan

This episode begins with Raditz taunting our heroes, making Piccolo very angry.  Goku on the other hand keeps his cool and seems more confident than one would think he should given the situation.  After a very brief speech to his son, Gohan, Goku and Piccolo both attack Raditz at the same time.  Needed to say, this does not go well and both heroes are easily out maneuvered by Raditz and take a thrashing.

After the dust settles we find out that things are worse than thought; Piccolo has lost his arm during the exchange!  Meanwhile, Master Roshi and the gang discuss how they can't trust Piccolo and that he is just as likely to betray Goku as work with him.  Back on the battlefield Piccolo reveals that he has developed a new technique that he had intended to use on Goku but he needs time to charge it.  Goku has to fight Raditz by himself for five minutes.  Can Goku make it?

After a Rocky type moment where Goku has to take a beating he manages to fire off an attack that seemed to take Raditz by surprise.  He ended up blocking it but it was more powerful than he expected.  While that was going on Raditz sees that Piccolo has his technique ready and it's so powerful he can't block it.  Realizing he has underestimated his foes, Radtiz has the special beam cannon fired at him.  The smoke clears and we find out Raditz is faster than the speed of light.  His shoulder his burnt but he managed to dodge Piccolo's attack.  All of that effort for nothing.

After such a close call, Raditz is angry and focuses his attention on Piccolo, ready to kill him.  In his loss of focus he forgets about Goku who had one trick up his sleeve.  Goku grabs Raditz' tail, dropping him to the ground in pain.  Unfortunately, Goku is way to trusting and he lets Raditz go after he said he wouldn't actually hurt anyone.  Raditz lied and attacks Goku immediately.  Just as Goku is about to die, Raditz senses a huge power level.  Gohan bursts out of his prison and flys into the air, to the amazement of everyone.

This episode is action packed and leaves a mystery at the end with Gohan's new found power.  I give this episode 4 out of 4 stars.
