Troll 2: Part 1

You are in for a treat today, I am going to review one of the worst films of all time.  This thing is epically bad.  It’s so bad I am going to have to do it in several parts because I can’t sit through the whole thing in one sitting lol.  What do you need to know about Troll 2?  For starters, there are zero trolls in the movie.  You may be asking, “Why is it called Troll 2 then?!”  Well, it goes something like this….There was a movie out called Troll and the makers of Troll 2 were hoping some people might think this movie is a sequel and watch it.  Yup, that’s the story.

As I mentioned, there are no trolls in this movie, it’s actually about Goblins.  These goblins are always trying to trick people into eating this weird green goop that turns them into half human, half plant beings that the goblins love to eat.  Yeah, that really is the plot of the movie.  Next we meet a family, I don’t even know their names and it really doesn’t matter.  They are apparently going to some random country town for a month and swapping homes with some family from that town.  How did they work all of this out?  Who knows, it’s never explained.

This kid is sitting in his bed while his grandpa reads him a story about goblins and warns him that they are real and they want to eat people.  As it turns out, the kid is crazy or seeing ghosts or something because his grandpa is actually dead and no one can see him but the kid.  His mom walks into the room and over explains everything just to make sure the audience knows what’s going on.  She says something like “Now Joshua, you know you live in this house with your father, your sister, and me, your mother.  Your grandpa, my dad, is dead”.  Obviously the kid knows who he lives with and apparently the script writer thought it would be much too complicated for the audience to simply see the family in the house and figure things out, he had to actually write it all out so we know for sure.

We cut to a scene of the sister in the movie, she is just bench pressing in her room for fun while listening to music on her headphones.  We find out that the family is vacationing in a town called Nilbog (Goblin spelled backwards).  Then we cut back to the girl about 10 minutes later and she is still benching pressing the same bar!  Apparently this chick has super endurance or it weighs about 2lbs because she hasn’t taken a break.  Her boyfriend decides it’s a good idea to climb a ladder and sneak into her room without her knowing, causing her to scream….and somehow no one in the house hears this.

Next, she randomly knees him in the balls for no reason and instantly becomes romantic after that.  She is bipolar I guess?!  Now we get some weird conversation with them where she explains how her family hates him because he hangs out with his friends all of the time.  How do they know his friends and why don’t they like them?  Who knows.  Immediately after explaining how her parents don’t like her boyfriend and can’t know he is in the house, she says he can come on vacation with them.  I guess her family got over not liking him in those 2 seconds.  The only condition is he has to promise not to bring his buddies along, which he agrees too.

The very next scene is everyone traveling to Nilbog and this boyfriend somehow got an RV that is loaded up with all of his friends!  lol, I guess the girls parents were right, these guys have a weird relationship with each other and apparently have to be around each other all of the time.  Alright, that is all for now but this masterpiece will continue.

The Avengers

With the release of The Avengers on DVD/Blu-ray this week, I have decided to review the summer blockbuster.  The basic plot revolves around Loki, the brother of Thor, working for a mysterious alien and leading an army to earth so he can rule.  To counter this attack, a secret Government organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. assembles the earth’s mightiest heroes.  Pretty much everyone loves this movie and I like it as well.  It’s a big, fun, summer popcorn flick and there is nothing wrong with that.

Marvel has taken years to build up to this film by making movies about the individual characters first.  This was a very wise plan.  Team movies with big casts tend to have the problem of trying to develop all of their characters in a 2-2.5 hour time span.  By having one or more individual movies come out first, everyone is already familiar with all of the characters in the movie.  This allows them to move straight into the action.

The only real complaint I have about The Avengers is that I didn’t care for the Governments technology very much.  Besides Iron Man, who is supposed to be way ahead of his time, the technology that had been shown in the previous films was basically what we have in real life.  But S.H.I.E.L.D.  has flying air craft carriers and all sorts of crazy gadgets, it just felt like watching a G.I. Joe cartoon from the 1980s.  This isn’t a big deal, I haven’t even heard anyone else mention it, so it’s probably just me.

Each of our heroes gets plenty of screen time and fight scenes.  For the first half of the movie they are fighting each other more than the bad guys.  Once they finally all come together and face off against the alien force at the end, it’s nothing but a huge free for all.  I never really felt like the world was in danger from this threat but New York was.  Apparently you shouldn’t live in New York because it’s always under attack by super villains in the movies!

It’s during the last third of the movie that the Hulk really steals the show.  Everyone loved this character and his use as comic relief.  It surprises me that Marvel hasn’t already put the Hulk 2 into production.  Perhaps they will soon.  After the credits we get a hint at who the bad guy in the next one will be, and he is a big one.  For people who don’t follow the comic books and were wondering who “the purple guy” was, his name is Thanos and he is a major threat to anyone.  Thanos is a guy who can beat even powerful beings like Thor or the Silver Surfer in a one on one fight.

Like I said before, The Avengers is a big, fun, popcorn flick and there is nothing wrong with that.  I give it 3 out of 4 stars.

The Walking Dead Season 2 E8: Nebraska

If you have not read my review for episode 7 from this season, you may do so here:  The Walking Dead Season 2 E7: Pretty Much Dead Already

This episode opens immediately where the last one left off.  Rick lowers his gun and looks at what was once Sophia’s body.  Beth runs over to see the body of her mother and is attacked by her.  Beth is saved by the group and an argument breaks out between Shane and Hershel.  Shane thinks Hershel knew Sophia was in the barn all along.  Hershel says Otis was the one who put her in the barn and he knew nothing about it.  Hershel says he wants everyone off of his land which causes Shane and Rick to get into it over how all of this was handled.

Glenn and Maggie have a conversation about the group moving on.  Glenn doesn’t seem to really understand why Maggie is so upset.  Carl tells Lori that Rick did the right thing by shooting Sophia.  His environment is hardening him.  The survivors decide to bury the walkers who used to be loved ones and burn the rest since there are so many of them.  Rick starts to question the decisions he has made.  He risked everyone’s lives out looking for Sophia when she was there on the farm all along (though he can’t be blamed for that since no one knew).

Shane argues and mocks Dale while Dale simply stands there and says nothing in return.  Dale doesn’t even have to say anything, Shane just keeps justifying himself like he already knows what Dale would have said anyway.  Carol gets a little time to go through her feelings.  She knows that Sophia died right away and didn’t suffer out in the woods.  She didn’t starve or spend nights alone being scared.  Maggie attempts to talk to Glenn again about staying if they group leaves just as her sister Beth collapses on the floor.  Needing medical attention, they try to locate Hershel but he is no where to be found.

Putting two and two together, they figure out Hershel is probably at the town bar.  Lori doesn’t want Rick out solving everyone else’s problems but he tells her they need Hershel for the baby.  Rick and Glenn head out and on the way to town they discuss Glenn’s relationship with Maggie.  Meanwhile, Dale tells Lori just how dangerous Shane can be and how he is a ticking time bomb.  Lori attempts to get Daryl to go to town and find Rick but he says it’s not his problem.

Rick and Glenn arrive in town to find Hershel exactly where they figured he would be.  Hershel feels like a fool because he thought the walkers were still alive.  Rick tells him there is nothing wrong with having hope and they discuss life and what kind of future their loved ones can have in this world.  Lori, being stupid as always, decides to go to town and find Rick…because if he is in a bad situation he can’t handle, somehow she will be able to save him having zero fighting ability or skills.  While not paying attention, she hits a walker and flips her car over.  I won’t make any jokes about female drivers here lol

Back at the bar, two men come inside (Dave & Tony).  They seem pretty untrustworthy after a short conversation.  They want Rick to take them back to the farm but he isn’t having any of it.  They end up having a shootout and Rick kills both of them before they have a chance to shoot him.  This is one of the coolest scenes in the show so far and shows just how dangerous Rick can be if he is pushed.  This episode ends back at the farm with several of the survivors burning walker bodies.

Iron Man To Face The Ten Rings In Sequel

Remember when Tony Stark was captured by the terrorist group in the first Iron Man movie?  Well it looks like they are back.  A photo of the crew’s production hat has been released and it has the logo for The 10 Rings on it.  Also at the San Diego Comic-Con, Ben Kingsley was shown wearing rings on his fingers in character as The Mandarin.  It’s kind of a cool idea to bring those bad guys back since they did take the time to build them up previous.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey New Poster

New Line Cinema and MGM have released the new poster for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, opening on December 14.  This one features Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins.  It has been revealed that The Hobbit will be a trilogy like the original Lord of the Rings series.

Thor: The Dark World Adds New Cast Members

Richard Brake and Clive Russell have been added to the cast of Thor: The Dark World.  Brake (Joe Chill from Batman Begins) will play a Captain in the Einherjar, an army of elite warriors assembled by Odin to protect Asgard.  Russell will portray Tyr, the God of War.  Tyr is another son of Odin and is Thor’s brother.  Tyr is jealous of Thor because he took his place as the defender of Asgard.  It sounds like Thor should never trust his brothers!

First Official Photo of Hugh Jackman in The Wolverine

He looks pretty much like he always does except if you look closely, I think he has a beard now, instead of his famous sideburns.  I hope this movie is much better than X-Men 3 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.  Hugh Jackman has always done a great job as Wolverine but much of the material he has been given to work with has been average at best.

Directed by James Mangold, the film stars Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima and Brian Tee.  It’s based on the famous comic arc in The Wolverine, where Logan is in Japan and the villain is expected to be the Silver Samurai.  Coming to theaters on July 26, 2013

The Walking Dead Season 2 E7: Pretty Much Dead Already

If you have not read my review for episode 6 from this season, you may do so here: The Walking Dead Season 2 E6: Secrets

This episode has a lot of conversation between the characters.  Everyone is trying to work things out and figure out a path for the future.  After Glenn can’t keep it in anymore, he tells the others about the walkers in the barn.  This sets off an argument between Shane and Rick, causing the walkers in the barn to try and get out to attack them.

As I mentioned previously, there are a lot of conversations in this one.  I’m not going to cover them all but Carol talks to Daryl about Sophia, Dale does his best to convince Andrea that Shane is a bad guy, and Rick talks to both Hershel and Shane, about the baby, staying on the farm and the walkers in the barn.  Maggie also talks to Hershel, she tells him about Glenn and how he saved her life from a walker.  She understands just how dangerous they are even if Hershel doesn’t.

Shane continues to spiral out of control.  He tells Lori that Rick will manage to get himself killed and that her baby is his, not Rick’s.  Due to Shane being so dangerous, Dale steals the bag of guns and hides them out in the woods.  Unfortunately for him, Shane finds him while he is doing it and they face off.  Dale threatens to kill Shane to protect everyone but backs down, allowing Shane to collect the guns.

Hershel takes Rick out to the swamp in order to show him how to capture the walkers.  He explains that they are just sick people, not the living dead.  They manage to bring a couple of the zombies back to the farm to put in the barn.  Shane is there handing out guns to everyone.  He feels this is crazy and shoots one of the walkers in the chest multiple times to show Hershel that these people aren’t sick, they are dead, and extremely dangerous.

Major spoilers ahead…..

Shane goes nuts and opens the barn, everyone unloads on the walkers as they come out of the barn.  This wasn’t a very smart move.  While the walkers should be dealt with, unloading all that ammo was a waste, it was very loud and could attract other walkers and it was dangerous to let them all out instead of just killing them from the top floor of the barn where they are out of harms way.

Just as they think the barn is clear and everyone starts to process the situation…..Sophia walks out of the barn.  She has been in there the whole time.  She must have been bit almost immediately after Rick told her to go back to camp and was captured by Otis before he died.  This is the most shocking thing that has happened in the show so far.

Batman vs Daredevil

If you have not read my last installment of “VS”, you may do so here: The Green Lantern vs The Silver Surfer

In past installments we have looked at some of the most powerful characters in existence.  This time we are going to scale things back a bit and check out some characters who don’t (for the most part) have any superpowers.

Daredevil:  Daredevil does have a few powers, mostly revolving around heightened senses, but he is also blind.  He has a sort of radar vision, which allows him to know where objects are due to sound waves reflecting off of surfaces.  He uses a cane that turns into a weapon and allows him to travel rooftops.  He is a highly trained athlete, pushing himself to the edge of human limits.

Batman:  Batman doesn’t actually possess any superpowers, but he does have an arsenal of high tech gadgets and a wide variety of skills.  Trained in multiple forms of martial arts and having a knowledge of science, Batman is also called the world’s greatest detective.  Like Daredevil, Batman has pushed himself to the limits of human potential.

The Fight:  Daredevil’s super-senses would allow him to detect Batman before he ever got to him.  Both of these guys are in peak physical condition and a fist fight between them would be a good one.  Both guys would take some major damage but I think Batman has the edge in fighting ability.  Batman has also fought the tougher opponents between them and has came out on top many times.  If Batman brings all of his technology into the battle (Batmobile, Batwing, etc) this one is over quick.

I think the deciding factor would be Daredevil’s superhearing.  Batman, being the detective that he is, would probably uncover Daredevil’s weakness at some point in time during the battle.  All Batman needs is a device with a high pitch sound to completely cripple Daredevil and put him away.  So, after a tough battle where both guys take a beating, I have Batman coming out on top.  His slight edge in fighting ability combined with his level of technology just puts him slightly ahead of Daredevil in my book.

Winner:  Batman

Frank Mir is out of Cormier fight

In some disappointing news, Frank Mir is apparently injured and out of the Daniel Cormier fight.  Mir was going to be Cormier’s 3rd top 10 fight in a row.  I thought Cormier was going to crush Mir without much effort but it still would have been a good win for him.  I don’t know what the issue is these days but it seems like half of the scheduled fights never happen because someone always gets injured during training.  What in the world are these guys doing to hurt themselves so often anyway?!

I think at this moment, most of the Heavyweights are injured, on suspension or otherwise tied up already so there are not a lot of options for Cormier.  Two name guys who I think would be available and still probably have enough time to get ready are Cheick Kongo and Fabricio Werdum.  Kongo would pretty much be a give me fight for Cormier but Werdum would be an amazing fight.  Both guys have great stand up skills and are world class on the ground.  I hope a fight like that can be put together.  The other option would be to just bring Cormier over to the UFC now and let him fight Junior Dos Santos for the title.  Strikeforce GP champ vs UFC Champ, that makes more sense than JDS fighting Velasquez again already.

The Walking Dead Season 3 Prison picture

The first shot of our survivors in the prison has been released.  I am not sure how many fences the prison has but it looks like there are at least two layers of it.  On the bright side, they at least have a secure place to stay, even if they may not have all of the perks from the farm (water, animals, etc).  This season could be pretty interesting, especially since the walkers aren’t going to be the only enemies around, they will have to deal with other people as well.

The New RoboCop: First Look

I have to say, I am not impressed.  He looks like a Power Ranger bad guy.  I have seen some rumors that they are going to enhance his uniform with CGI, but that worries me even more since CGI tends to take me out of a movie, especially when it’s in the movie a lot.

Dragon Ball Z E13: Goz and Mez

If you have not read my review of episode 12, you may do so here: Dragon Ball Z E12: Global Training

Goku wakes up to find out the strange fruit tree is guarded by a couple of Ogres.  No one is allowed to eat the fruit except for King Yemma.  Not only that, but once someone falls off of snake way, they can never return!  Meanwhile we also see Tien and the gang climbing up to Korin’s tower.

Goku isn’t one to give up so he attempts to jump back onto snake way but simply can’t jump high enough.  One of the Ogres, Goz, offers to wrestle Goku in exchange for a flying machine that will allow him to return to his journey.  Goku wins the match without much effort but it turns out Goz was just messing with him.  He doesn’t really have a flying machine and simply uses a giant teeter totter to send Goku flying upwards…into the clouds, which form a solid barrier he can’t get through.

Mez decides to mess with Goku as well and offers to tell him about a secret passage if Goku is able to catch him.  Once again, Goku takes up the challenge.  After a big chase, Goku catches Mez by tricking him.  Mez shows Goku the secret passage back to snake way when Goku reveals that he had managed to take a piece of fruit off of the tree when they weren’t looking.  Goku, thinking he got the last laugh, finds out he was tricked again.  This passage does lead back to snake way, but it leads back to the very beginning of snake way.  Goku has to start completely from scratch.  The good news is, the fruit Goku took from the tree gives him double the strength and fills him up for 3 months.

Dan Henderson vs Lyoto Machida Next?

“[Machida] should have taken the fight. We’ve seen it, history always repeats itself. Look how long it took Rashad (Evans) to fight for the title again. So you wanted to fight Jon Jones, you climbed up to the title fight and you don’t take it. Now you’re fighting (expletive) Dan Henderson. Now you might not even get to the (expletive) title again. You lose to Dan Henderson you’re not anywhere near Jon Jones,” -Dana White

In his usual childish and disrespectful manner, Dana White bashes Machida for not taking the fight against Jon Jones on several weeks notice.  The whole mess with UFC 151 was no ones fault but Dana White, and of course he blamed everyone but himself.  During this situation Dana has put down Dan Henderson, Jon Jones and Lyoto Machida, three top five Light Heavyweights.  I’m not sure what he hopes to accomplish by bashing his own fighters but he isn’t helping anything.

About the fight itself, I would love to see it.  This match up has never happened before and both of these guys are great fighters.

Dragon Ball Z E12: Global Training

If you have not read my review of episode 11, you may do so here: Dragon Ball Z E11: Terror on Arlia

As this episode opens, Gohan is having a nightmare about his father, Goku.  With everything that has been going on, Gohan really hasn’t had a chance to grieve over Goku’s death.  Meanwhile, Bulma and the gang are on the lookout for Tien and Chiaotzu so that they can also receive special training from Korin.

During his journey, Goku runs into someone using a street sweeper to clean snake way.  The bad news is Goku finds out that he has only made it about a quarter of the way, the good news is the street sweeper told Goku he can hitch a ride on the back of his vehicle and he will take him half way.  Launch (a character from Dragon Ball who switches personalities when she sneezes) has fixed a meal for Tien and attempts to talk him into robbing banks with her.  Tien wants nothing to do with her and leaves to continue his training, with the goal of beating Goku.

Piccolo is training on his own, using his mind to lift pyramids.  He loses control of one and drops it, causing an earthquake.  During the earthquake Gohan is almost trapped underground but he uses his new skills to jump out before the ground closes up.  The earthquake does destroy Launch’s house though, and Tien is forced to save her.

Bulma uses the scouter to locate Tien and Chiaotzu.  After filling them in on all that has happened they are more then ready for the special training.  Launch (who is apparently obsessed with Tien) isn’t very happy about the situation.  Back on snake way, the street sweeper hits a bump on the road and a sleeping Goku is knocked off of the vehicle and falls off of snake way.  He wakes up to find some kind of fruit tress.  Just as Goku is ready to eat, someone or something knocks him out from behind.

The Walking Dead Season 2 E6: Secrets

If you have not seen my review for episode 5, you may do so here: The Walking Dead Season 2 E5: Chupacabra

At the beginning of the episode we find out how Hershel and his family have been feeding the walkers.  They take chickens and break their legs, then throw them in the barn.  Maggie and Glenn talk about the walkers in the barn, she doesn’t understand just how dangerous they are.  Everyone keeps telling their secrets to Glenn and he is acting weird because he isn’t good at lying to people.  It’s pretty obvious it’s just a matter of time until he has to tell everyone what is going on.

Rick and Lori get into an argument over Carl carrying a gun.  It doesn’t help matters any that Carl lied to Dale in order to get into the RV and steal a gun from there, showing how irresponsible he is.  After Glenn tells Dale everything he knows, Dale takes it upon himself to confront Hershel over the walkers in the barn.  Dale finds out that Hershel just believes that the walkers are sick people who need help.  He also discovers that Hershel’s wife and step son are in the barn as well.  Hershel doesn’t know what it is like out in the world and because of his connection to several of the walkers, he doesn’t want to know.

Shane takes Andrea out teach her how to shoot at a moving target, which is much different than shooting at a piece of paper like they had been doing.  He attempts to make her emotional and brings her dead sister Amy into it to put her under stress.  Andrea just gets angry and walks off and Shane realizes that he has gone too far.  He goes after her and tells her they have a lead on Sophia.  They go into an abandoned neighborhood and search through some of the houses.  They don’t find any sign of Sophia but they do run into a herd of walkers!  They make their way back to the car after taking out a large herd, giving Andrea first hand experience.  On the car ride back, Andrea makes advances towards Shane and they pull over.

Maggie and Glenn make a run to town to gather more supplies (and items Lori asked for which Maggie doesn’t know about).  While digging around for whatever useful items they can find, Maggie is attacked by a walker.  It’s a close call but Glenn saves her and takes out the walker with his knife.  We find out that Lori wanted morning after pills.  Without even talking to Rick she is going to try and kill her baby so it doesn’t have to live in this cruel world.  After taking them she instantly changes her mind and forces herself to throw them up.

Dale, thinking there is something going on between Shane and Andrea, confronts Shane and tells him he knows what kind of man he is.  Dale lets Shane know that he thinks he killed Otis and wants him to stay away from Andrea.  Shane threatens Dale and walks off.  Meanwhile, Rick finds the opened packet of morning after pills and confronts Lori.  She tells him that she threw the pills up and he wants to know if she has anymore secrets.  Lori lets Rick know about what happened with her and Shane when she thought Rick was dead.

Anderson Silva vs Stephan Bonnar

In probably the worst year for the UFC I can remember, another card had almost fallen through.  UFC 153 lost both the Main event and Co-Main Event when Jose Aldo and Quinton Jackson dropped off the card due to injuries.  Anderson Silva and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (Big Nog) have stepped up to take some rather meaningless fights. Silva is fighting Stephan Bonnar (who isn’t even in the top 25 at LHW) and Big Nog is fighting Dave Herman.

I am actually not against fights like this.  Back in Pride, in order to keep fighters active, the best guys would sometimes face off against average opponents.  They would still fight a couple of top contenders every year but these other fights just allowed you to see your favorites more often, and that is a good thing.  I would like to see Anderson Silva either retire or move to 205lbs permanently since there is nothing left for him at 185lbs.  Seeing him fight the same guys over and over got old a long time ago.  Moving to 205lbs will open up all kinds of exciting fights everyone wants to see.

Dragon Ball Z E11: Terror on Arlia

If you have not read my review of episode 10, you may do so here: Dragon Ball Z E10: A New Friend

Gohan wakes up and gathers breakfast and it seems like he is mastering the survival training Piccolo is putting him through.  He is no longer the whiny little kid who can’t do anything for himself.  The T-Rex from the previous episodes even shows up and Gohan toys with him before cutting off part of his tail to make a steak.  Meanwhile, out in space we see the dreaded Saiyans waking up from a deep sleep and on back on Earth Yamcha is still bragging about how strong he is going to be.

Besides a quick glimpse of Goku still running on snake way, the rest of the episode focuses on the Saiyan landing on a planet called Arlia.  This is an interesting episode because up to this point we have never really seen the Saiyans do anything.  Since they were flying by anyway on their way to Earth, Vegeta and Nappa decide make a quick stop to stretch their legs…and conquer the entire planet of Arlia out of boredom so they can sell it off and make a profit.

Arlia is a planet with an insect looking race living on it.  It has apparently been under the rule of a tyrant King for hundreds of years.  Just for sport, Vegeta and Nappa allow themselves to be captured by the Arlians.  While in prison the Saiyans come across some Arlian prisoners; one of them had his wife stolen from him so the King could take her as his Queen.  Vegeta gets bored and decides to end this.  The Saiyans break into the King’s throne room, where he has Arlians fight to the death for his amusement.

After easily defeating all of the King’s guards and even his giant monster he keeps for a pet, the Saiyans finish off the King as well as he begs for his life.  The rest of the prisoners escape and thank the Saiyans for all that they have done.  Deciding that the planet Arlia is worthless, Vegeta and Nappa get into their ships to finish the trip to Earth.  On Arlia we see the prisoner who had his wife stolen reuniting with her.  Back out in space Vegeta stops his ship and blows up the entire planet of Arlia, probably just because the whole experience ended up being a waste of time.

Even when celebrated as heroes by an enslaved race, the Saiyans do not care about life.  They didn’t free the people to help them, they did it just for the fun of killing people in single combat.  If we didn’t already know, we now understand just how evil and without mercy the Saiyans are.

The Walking Dead Season 2 E5: Chupacabra

If you have not read my review of the last episode, you may do so here:  The Walking Dead Season 2 E4: Cherokee Rose

We open on another flashback of what happened before Rick woke up from the Hospital.  I really like these scenes and it’s interesting to go back and fill in the gaps we the audience have missed.  People are all along the road and traffic has stopped moving.  Shane and Lori leave Carl with Carol to go and see what is going on.  As they look into the city, Helicopters fly over and drop napalm on the streets.  They are now starting to understand just how bad things are.

Back to the present, Rick and Shane are out looking for Sophia and have a talk about if they should continue this or not.  Shane thinks it’s a waste of time and the daily searches are only endangering them and making the group weaker.  Rick has hope that Sophia is still alive, and because he has a son, he knows he would want others to keep looking for Carl if he was missing.  After they get back to the farm, Hershel has a quick talk with Rick about controlling his people.

Daryl is also out looking for Sophia, but after a snake scares his horse he falls and one of his arrows sticks him in the side.  Due to his injury he can’t climb back up the hill he fell off of and ends up passing out when he falls again.  Probably from being in shock, Daryl starts to hallucinate about Merle being there and talking to him.  “Merle” is telling Daryl how the people in the camp don’t care about him and how they are just using him.  Daryl comes out of it to realize that “Merle” kicking his boot is actually a walker trying to eat his foot.  Daryl takes out the walker and another one that is coming for him and makes it up the hill to travel back to Hershel’s farm.

As a token of gratitude, the women in the camp decide to cook dinner for Hershel and his family.  Hershel knew nothing about this and when he walks into his house and sees everyone cooking he asks Maggie what is going on.  She tells him and he says not to get close to these people because they will not be staying.  During dinner, Maggie and Glenn are passing notes to each other.  Maggie wants to meet Glenn alone after dinner and he writes the location down on the note.

Andrea decides she no longer wants to help with the chores the other women are doing.  She wants to help keep an eye out for walkers and be able to carry a gun around.  Andrea’s character continues to become more and more annoying.  First she wanted to kill herself, then she whines constantly about wanting to carry a gun around, even though she barely knows how to use one.  After she thinks she spots a walker, she starts to take aim and Rick tells her no.  Shooting a gun to take out one walker would be stupid as it would just attract more to the area for no reason.  She doesn’t listen to what anyone said and shoots the “walker” anyway.  The walker turns out to be Daryl, who is bloody and dirty from his trip back.  Luckily Andrea only grazed the side of his head but it is just more proof that she is an idiot who isn’t responsible enough to have a gun.

Later that night, Maggie opens the note from Glenn to see where he is going to meet her.  When she sees where it is she panics and runs out of the house after him.  Glenn is climbing into the barn when he hears a noise and looks down.  The barn is filled with zombies!   Glenn turns around and Maggie is standing there and says “You weren’t supposed to see that”.  Well, now we know what Hershel’s secret was, the question is why?

Dragon Ball Z E10: A New Friend

If you have not read my review of episode 9, you may do so here:  Dragon Ball Z E9: The Strangest Robot

As this episode begins, it seems Gohan is starting to be able to take care of himself out in the wild.  He has caught a fish, gathered some fruit and even made himself some medicine to heal his wounds (which he learned how to do from watching Goku).  Unfortunately for Gohan, something big and mean is sneaking up behind him.

For the first time in the series we see Yamcha, an old favorite from Dragon Ball.  He has become a baseball player though he doesn’t seem very excited about it.  Turns out he misses fighting and only plays baseball because he is really good at it and it pays the bills.  Luckily for him, Krillin shows up and informs Yamcha about everything that has been happening and tells him about the offer for special training.  Without a second thought, Yamcha is in.  Yamcha and Bulma also have a little reunion but Bulma is still mad at Yamcha for going out with another girl.

Back in the cave, Gohan wakes up to find he is not alone.  There is a giant dinosaur in there with him!  He runs out of the save but then decides he needs to be brave so he goes back to challenge the beast.  Things are not as it seems though, and the dinosaur actually has a wound that is hurting him.  Gohan uses the medicine he knows how to make to heal him up.  The only problem is, a huge T-Rex (the one Gohan had run from in an earlier episode) shows up and starts attacking the other dinosaur.  Gohan does his best to fight the T-Rex but gets knocked out during the battles.  By the time Gohan wakes up, the dinosaur he had helped is dead and has been eaten by the T-Rex.

After Yamcha brags about how much stronger he will be from the special training at Korin’s tower, Bulma seems to get over being mad at him.  During all of this Goku is still traveling snake way, and it is starting to seem like it will never end.

The Walking Dead Season 2 E4: Cherokee Rose

If you have not read my review of episode 3 from this season, you may do so here:  The Walking Dead Season 2 E3: Save the Last One

This episode opens with Otis’ funeral.  Unfortunately for Shane, who is still feeling guilty over murdering him, he is asked to give a speech about Otis’ final moments.  Of course the entire speech is a big lie Shane is making up on the spot.  Dale seems to have a shocked look on his face, like he doesn’t buy it.  No one else seems to question Shane though.

While the search for Sophia continues, Hershel has a talk with Rick.  He wants Rick and his group to leave after they find Sophia and Carl heals up from his injuries.  Hershel explains that they do not normally take people into their home and there are reasons for that but he does not say why.  What kind if secret is Hershel hiding?  Things may not be as pleasant on the farm as it appears.

Several of our survivors are out gathering water when they find out that a walker had fallen down into one of the wells.  They decide the best option is to try and pull him out so they can still use the water.  I do not understand the logic on this one.  The walker has been down in there for some time.  Taking out the fact that he is a zombie, he is also a decaying corpse that has been floating in that water for some time.  There is no way I would drink that.  They have several other wells they can use as well, they just need to make sure the other wells are secure so this doesn’t happen again.  After almost getting Glenn killed, they do get the walker out but he breaks in half (the lower half falls back into the well) and the water is ruined anyway.

Daryl is out searching for Sophia and runs across a house that looks like someone had been in recently.  While there, he picks a flower he later gives to Carol (Sophia’s mom), explaining this flower (a Cherokee Rose) grows for a lost one love.  Meanwhile Shane is talking to Andrea about what it is like to shoot at something trying to kill you, how it is very different than shooting at a paper target.  Though Andrea doesn’t know it, Shane is getting out his feelings on how to get over his guilt for killing Otis.

In an effort to acquire more medical supplies, Maggie is sent to town with Glenn.  Before they leave Lori secretly asks Glenn to pick up something for her but we are not told what it is.  The town they go to seems to be completely abandoned, there is not even a walker in sight.  While there picking up supplies, Glenn and Maggie start a romantic relationship with each other…kind of.  We do find out what it was Lori asked Glenn to get, a pregnancy test.  Lori then finds out she is pregnant.  Considering she had just been contemplating letting Carl die to be out of this nightmare, she obviously isn’t going to deal with this very well.

Rick and Hershel have another talk.  This time Rick says he is responsible for the group, they look to him, and he wants to be a good father and protect his family.  He says Hershel doesn’t understand what it is like out there in the world, it’s not safe like on the farm.  Rick basically begs Hershel to let them stay and Hershel says he will consider it, if everyone obeys his rules.

This was a pretty good episode, it opened up a few new interesting plot points and makes one wonder what Hershel is hiding.

Christian Bale Fulfills Sick Child's Wish of Meeting Batman

Earlier in the year Christian Bale was a real life hero when he went to visit the Colorado shooting victims during their stay at the Hospital. Well, he is at it again. The city of Youngstown, Ohio organized an event called "Lighting the Bat Signal for Jayden," (Five-year-old Jayden Barber who had been diagnosed with MSD leukemia and given only months to live).

One of Jayden's wishes was to meet the "real Batman", Christian Bale.  After hearing about the event, Bale flew Jayden and his family to Los Angeles and treated them to lunch at Disney's Club 33.  In even better news, word is that Jayden is now in remission.

The Walking Dead Season 2 E3: Save the Last One

If you have not read my review of episode 2 from this season, you may do so here: The Walking Dead Season 2 E2: Bloodletting

This episode has a strange introduction.  Shane is shaving his head, but we don’t know if this is a flash back or what is going on.  It definitely peaks your interest right off the bat though!

There are basically three main plots going on during this episode.  The first plot is that Daryl and Andrea go out looking for Sophia at night.  During their search they trade some personal stories and Daryl questions Andrea on if she wants to live or not.  They come across a tent and hear something in the tree.  They find a walker hanging there, and before he turned he had left a note saying he was bit and decided to end it all.  Unfortunately for him he didn’t know you have to destroy the brain so he has been hanging from a rope for who knows how long.  At the end of the day they didn’t find Sophia and head back to the RV.

A second plot going on involves Shane and Otis at the school trying to escape from the herd of walkers.  They save each other multiple times during this encounter but it seems like no matter which way they go, more walkers are there.  After they both have acquired some injuries, they attempt to make their way to the get away vehicle but both are wearing out.  Tired and injured, with a herd of walkers behind them, all looks lost.

The last plot point is Carl needing surgery.  He can’t make it much longer but Shane and Otis are not back yet with the supplies they need.  After some moral debate between Rick and Lori on if it’s worth living in this world, they both decide it is and they should do everything possible to save their son (only Lori was thinking it would be better if he died).  Just as they are about to have the surgery without the supplies they need, Shane pulls up.  Otis is no where in sight but they have everything needed to do the surgery as safely as possible.  Carl makes it through and is in stable condition while Shane informs them that Otis gave his life to save him.

Big Spoiler:
After all of this, Shane goes upstairs to take a shower and we see some of his hair has been pulled out.  He finds a razor and shaves his head (the scene we started on) while it shows us what really happened.  Shane shoots Otis in the leg and takes his supplies.  During all of this Otis grabs Shane’s hair but Shane beats him until he lets go.  Shane escapes to safety while Otis is brutally eaten alive by the walkers.  Shane has gone too far before but this is the first time he has sacrificed an innocent person for his own survival.

Daniel Craig to Portray James Bond at Least Two More Times

After the upcoming Skyfall, Daniel Craig is signed to portray Agent 007 two more times. After Sean Connery, Daniel Craig is actually my favorite James Bond. Connery and Craig are the only Bonds that actually seemed like tough guys to me. I also like that even though these movies are part of a classic series, it's like they take place in their own separate world and each movie is connected to the ones before it.  Skyfall opens in November.

Michael Shannon’s Preview Of ‘Man Of Steel’ Was ‘Mind-Blowing’

Michael Shannon, who portrays General Zod in Man of Steel, talks about the film and seeing Henry Cavill as Superman. I have high hopes for this movie. Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight Trilogy) is producing and Zach Snyder (300) is directing. That is a good combination of creative writing and visual flare.

Wonder Woman Back on TV?

Even though David E. Kelley failed to bring Wonder Woman to the small screen less then a year ago, it appears that CW is going to try again.  Being developed under the name “Amazon”, the show will focus on Wonder Woman as a young, budding superhero, rather than a fully formed defender of liberty.”

Allan Heinberg, who is most famous for working on the CW series Gilmore Girls and has also written “Wonder Woman” comic books, has be hired to write the script.

I do find it interesting that DC is trying to develop Wonder Woman as a TV series, and not as a feature film.  Considering the success of the Marvel movies, and DC’s desire to put together a Justice League movie, it seems like they would want to make a movie instead.  Perhaps they are trying to build some excitement for the character since most of DC’s movies have not been big hits lately (with the exception of Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies).

Lyoto Machida officially removed from #1 contender spot

“When I make a fight, I don’t say a word until everything is signed. I did exactly what I never do. That big media call was the next day and Machida couldn’t be reached and his manager thought he’d take the fight,” “Before this happened he was terrorizing me for a title shot, and then he said four weeks wasn’t enough. But then things start going in another direction. It happened to Rashad Evans. He was out of a fight for a year and a half. Machida is not next in line now. He will need to go fight somebody else first.” -Dana White

In what should come as a surprise to no one, Dana White has gone back on his word once again and has taken away Lyoto Machida’s title shot.  Originally the title shot was promised to the winner of Shogun Rua vs  Brandon Vera, but that didn’t last long.  Dana changed it to whoever performs the best out of Shogun Rua vs Brandon Vera and Lyoto Machida vs Ryan Bader.  Well that winner was Lyoto Machida.

What is amazing about all of this is that Lyoto Machida is being punished for something that wasn’t even his fault.  UFC 151 being canceled has been blamed on everyone except the people really at fault, Dana White and his Zuffa crew.  These guys have been watering down the PPV cards for years and UFC 151 was so bad, that without Jon Jones and Dan Henderson carrying the card by themselves, there wasn’t even one fight on it anyone wanted to see.

If the UFC had been selling lots of tickets they wouldn’t have canceled, with or without Jones, but reports are that they had barely sold any tickets and the event was going to be a huge flop.  So as Dana does, he went on a smear campaign, against Jon Jones, Dan Henderson, Lyoto Machida and anyone else he could try and pass the blame on besides himself.  It is not the fighters fault that Zuffa tried to pass off a garbage card onto the viewers and it back fired on them.  Bashing all of the top guys at Light Heavy Weight isn’t going to help the situation.  I really wish these fighters would start standing up for themselves and realize that they are the ones with all of the power, but they give it to Zuffa all the time.

One good thing out of this is that we might be able to see Lyoto Machida vs Dan Henderson if Henderson heals from his injury in the next few months.  I think that would be a great fight.  I would rather Jon Jones just move up to heavyweight if he beats Vitor Belfort.  Jones is huge and walks around as big as most heavyweights and he has a longer reach.  It would give him a challenge and open up all kinds of new and exciting fights.

Dragon Ball Z E9: The Strangest Robot

If you have not read my review for Episode 8, you may do so here: Dragon Ball Z Ep 8: Gohan Goes Bananas!

Gohan wakes up to find out that not only is he down off of the cliff he was on but he has completely new clothes, a sword and his tail is missing!  He has no memory of turning into a giant ape or Piccolo destroying the moon to turn him back into his regular form.  Gohan doesn’t get a lot of time to figure out what happened as he is attacked by several wild animals, eventually falling down into some sort of cavern.

Inside of the cavern Gohan finds a strange robot.  After accidentally powering him up, Gohan is told by the robot to turn him back off and leave.  Gohan agrees but not before he asks for a way out.  The robot tells him to escape using the tunnel behind him, but that only leads to a huge cliff that is so high, Gohan can’t even see the bottom of it.  After waking the robot up again, and complimenting him, the robot decides to help Gohan get some food so he doesn’t starve to death.

Gohan wants to help the robot so he attempts to dig him out of the rubble he is trapped in but it just causes a cave in.  Using the last of his power supply, the robot throws Gohan out of the save and into safety.  Gohan comes back after the cave has collapsed to talk to the machine as he dies.  Motivated by not being strong enough to do anything, Gohan marches off to find his way home with a new determination.

This episode was mostly just a filler episode.  I assume it’s only reason purpose was to motivate Gohan to be tough and start taking things seriously, because there are consequences to being weak in a situation like the one he is in.  Goku is seen briefly a few times, but all he does is talk and dream about eating food.

I give this episode 2 out of 4 stars.

Fedor Emelianenko Voted The Greatest Fighter Of All Time By Brazilian Fans

Porto de Vale Tudo, a big Brazilian website, conducted a month-long poll in August asking one question – who is the greatest fighter of all time?  Considering that this was done in Brazil it’s pretty shocking that a Russian ended up being the overwhelming favorite.  It’s good to see Brazilian fans are fair and truthful in their evaluation of fighters.

Fedor Emelianenko: 73%
Anderson Silva: 12%
Rodrigo Minotauro (Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira): 7%
Dan Henderson: 7%
Randy Couture: 1%

The Walking Dead Season 2 E2: Bloodletting

If you have not read my review of episode 1 from this season, you may do so here:  http://cinemakingdom.com/?p=325

This episode has an interesting beginning.  It shows what Lori was doing when Rick got shot in the pilot episode.  She was complaining to one of her friends about how Rick stays level headed during their fights and it makes her angry.  Shane drives up and tells her what happened and they let Carl know as he is getting off from school.  What they don’t know is that things are about to get much worse as the zombie invasion is about to start.

Back in the present Rick is carrying Carl, who was shot in the previous episode.  Otis (the man who accidentally shot Carl) tells him how to get to Hershel’s (someone who can apparently help Carl).  Carl is out cold but Hershel is working on him, unfortunately Hershel is going to need more medical supplies for an emergency surgery.  Otis and Shane head off to the local school to try and find what they need (the hospital isn’t an option).

In the woods, the search for Sophia is coming to a close for the day.  Just as they are almost back to camp a walker attacks Andrea.  It looks like she is done for when someone riding on a horse hits the walker with a baseball bat.  It’s Maggie, Hershel’s daughter.  She came to pick up Lori and take her to Rick and Carl.  Maggie also informs everyone on how to get to her families farm.

Rick and Hershel have a conversation about the zombie outbreak.  It’s pretty obvious that Hershel is much more positive about things than Rick is.  Maggie and Lori arrive and Lori immediately hugs Rick and they go inside to check on Carl.  Back at camp they decide to spend the night on the road again, just in case Sophia shows up, but Glenn is sent to find the farm and reconnect with the rest of the group.  At the school Otis and Shane find the supplies they need but are over ran by walkers and end up trapped behind a gate that isn’t going to protect them for very long.

This episode was more about moving the story along than action.  It was a little boring at times, due to many of the scenes revolving around Rick giving blood to Carl but they threw enough plot points in there to move things along.  Overall it’s a solid episode.
I give this episode 3 out of 4 stars

DC Online

If you guys are looking for a free game to play, I highly recommend checking out DC Online.  This game allows you to create a superhero of your own design and give him/her a certain power set you can select from several options.  DC Online does offer expansion packs that give you more levels and more power sets to pick from (Flash powers, Green Lantern powers, etc) but they are not needed, especially at first.  There is a ton of free content that will keep you busy for a while.

After your character is created you will be guided through missions by the mentor you selected.  Your options are Superman, Batman or Wonder Woman.  Personally, I think Superman and Batman have the better missions.  You can even travel to different cities in this game, and all of them are huge.  Some of the missions allow you to fight along side of legendary heroes such as Superman or The Flash, and you will face off against many of the greatest villains in the DC Universe.

The only real negative about the game is the voice acting.  It can be pretty bad sometimes but the Batman characters are voiced by the cast from the 90s Batman the animated series so you can’t go wrong there.  Considering it’s completely free to play and loads of fun, you can’t really go wrong here.  Check it out today!

Arlovski: I didn’t care if I got DQd, I was kicking Sylvia in the face

“About my fight with Tim Sylvia, it was ruled a ‘No Contest,’ but, to be honest with you, I don’t really care. For some reason, when the referee raised his arm up, it’s like he gave me a signal to kick him. Even if he didn’t raise his arm up, I would have done it anyway, because Tim said, before the fight, that he was gonna kick me if he had the opportunity. It’s exactly what I told Travis Browne and Greg Jackson. I told them this, and I don’t really care if they disqualify me or not. If I have an opportunity for a soccer kick, I’m going to do it, and I did.”

“I dropped Tim Sylvia with my combo, with my hands. Right, left, right. I’m over all this. It wasn’t necessary to kick him with a soccer kick, but I did it, and pretty much everyone knows that I dropped him. We move on. The bad blood between me and Tim Sylvia, it’s over, and that’s it.” -Andrei Arlovski

From this I wonder if they will fight a fifth time or not?  I wouldn’t mind seeing it but they could wait and let them both fight some other people first.  ONE FC may want to get a conclusion on this rivalry though before they match them up with other heavyweights.

Actor Michael Clarke Duncan dead at 54

Some sad news in the world of entertainment today. Actor Michael Clarke Duncan, known for his role in The Green Mile and as the Kingpin in Daredevil, has passed away at the age off 54.  Duncan had “suffered a myocardial infarction on July 13 and never fully recovered” according to his girlfriend, reality TV personality Rev. Omarosa Manigault.

Andrei Arlovski: Worst Luck Ever?

What is it about Andrei Arlovski whenever he fights Tim Sylvia?  Arlovski crushed Sylvia in their first fight, and things looked exactly the same in their second fight until Arlovski rushed in and somehow got caught with a punch he didn’t see coming that put him out.  That one was due to him being over aggressive and sloppy but fights three and four are just something else.

I haven’t watched Arlovski vs Sylvia III in a long time but I remember thinking Arlovski should have got the decision.  Well okay, sometimes decisions go the wrong way but now years later we have Arlovski vs Sylvia IV and Arlovski sends Sylvia to the crashing to the ground in a heap and follows up with a couple of soccer kicks (that barely landed) for good measure.

The problem is, ONE FC has some crazy rule where you can soccer kick, but only if the ref says you can?!  They either need to allow soccer kicks and knees on the ground or make them illegal.  Having to look at the ref to make sure he says it’s good to go defeats the purpose of having them in the first place.  By the time you look to see if he says it’s okay you have wasted that second you needed to capitalize on you opponent being hurt.  All this rule will due is cause many more situations like this one.

At this point Arlovski should be 3-1 against Tim Sylvia but because of a bad judges decisions and some crazy rule he is 1-2-1 against him.  I almost hate to see what kind of weird thing is going to come out of the next fight between these guys.  And for the record, I am not some big fan of either one of these guys.  I like watching them fight and they are certainly MMA legends, but I just call it like I see em.

The Walking Dead Season 2 E1: What Lies Ahead

Season 2 of The Walking Dead picks up just a couple of days after the end of season 1.  Rick is still trying to contact Morgan on his walkie-talkie and is beginning to lose hope that Morgan is still out there.  After the incident at the CDC the survivals have even less manpower now and decide to try and find another safe place.

On their journey they run into a huge car pileup on the road.  They don’t even have the option to turn around and find another way because they are so limited on gas.  At first this seems like a huge problem but the survivors come to find out many of these broken down vehicles have supplies in them, including a truck filled with water containers.  Just as everything seemed to be looking up, Rick spots an army of walkers in the distance heading their way.  The survivors hide under the cars hoping the walkers will pass them by.

Several of the survivors get themselves into some trouble but all of them make it through, except for Sophia.  She runs off into the woods, followed by two walkers.  Rick follows and defeats the walkers but then no one can locate Sophia.  Rick sends Shane back to camp to give everyone jobs to do to keep them busy so no one starts to panic about the situation at hand.  Rick and Daryl track Sophia but her tracks only lead to a walker who has fresh blood on his face.  Wanting to figure out if this walker killed Sophia or not they cut him open to see what he had eaten recently.  It appears Sophia is still safe for now but with it getting dark, the search will have to continue at sunrise.

The following morning the survivors form search parties to try and locate Sophia.  Dale stays behind in order work on his RV and get it up and running again.  During the search the survivors hear church bells going off.  After finally locating the church, they find that the bells are on an automatic timer and the church has several walkers in it.  Rick and the gang take out the walkers and continue to search the area while Andrea overhears Shane tell Lori that he is going to slip away and leave the group.  Andrea tells Shane that she wants in.

Rick goes into the church and attempts to bargain with God.  He wants a sign of some kind to show him if he is doing the right thing or not.  Later, Rick, Shane and Carl (who stayed behind to continue the search for Sophia a little longer) spot a deer.  During a moment of peace, tragedy strikes.  I won’t give away what happens.

This is a great episode.  The scene with all of the walkers on the road is tense, having a character go missing opens up new story lines and the mounting conflicts between the survivors add new drama that isn’t zombie related.  This season is already different than the last season and I like where it is heading.  This is probably the best episode of the series besides the pilot.

I give this episode 3.5 out of 4 stars.
